rikke: Help

Alright.
I've been lurking here for a little time, but I will now take action.
I am reading the Pern series.

Now, this is just something I think I might have heard somewhere. That means, I'm not sure this is a fact, but I hoped that some devoted fellow geek would help me out.
Is there one of McCaffrey's series that are placed before the actual Pern series? I seem to remember that one series takes place before that, before the colonists landed on Pern. But maybe I'm just seeing things.

Anyway, thanks for the help.

I'm pretty sure that the earliest one is when they land on pern. LIke the first couple chapters are on the ship, but as far as I know there isn't any that takes place before that.

The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall is what you've heard of. It is a book consisting of fives short stories about Pern. The first one is actually about the original survey team that checks Pern out and OKs it for colonization.

This link (http://www.amazon.com/Chronicles-Pern-First-Fall-Dragonriders/dp/0345368991/sr=8-1/qid=1158115844/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-4668860-3567064?ie=UTF8&s=books) is to the Amazon entry on it. I recommend checking out your library first if you want to read it.

I actually like the book. The individual stories offer nice prespectives into the early existance of Pern (including the orgin of its name).

Are you thinking of Dragonsdawn which is the novel that tells of the landing on Pern?

She wrote other novels before she started on Pern - the first one is Restoree.

I'm not sure if this is a widely held idea, but I've always considered the Pegasus Trilogy and the Rowan books to be in the same universe as Pern. I'm not even sure why I thought that though.

Hmm... I believe it's the Pirates series - Sassinak, etc - that are in the same universe as Pern. The first story in The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall (which is titled The Survey: P.E.R.N) deals with the original team that lands on Pern and declares it a Parallel Earth, Resources Negligible. Well, that team was sent from the Exploration and Evaluation Corps - EEC for short - which is a branch of the Federated Sentinent Planets - FSP for short. The FSP Fleet is what Sassinak joins after her planet is raided by pirates. Hope this helps!

Well, Sassinak is in the same universe as the Dinosaur Planet Omnibus.
