lothy: I just joined :)

Hey :) I'm Lanta (or Lothy) and I'm from the UK.

I'm presently re-reading the Pern series, which I love (my favourite characters are Ruth & Jaxom). Anyway I thought I'd come and find an AM-related community, so here I am :)

I've read a lot of her books. There are a few I don't like much (the Acorna series for instance) but on the whole I love them. My favourites aside from Pern are a toss-up between Nimisha's Ship, Damia and The Death of Sleep. Oh and one of the Freedom books (I can never remember which one).

I'm also a fan of Elizabeth Moon, who I partially discovered through her collaborations with McCaffrey - and I'm now starting to get into Mercedes Lackey books as well. Maybe sometime I'll try out Jody Lynn Nye!

BTW does anyone have any information on a Pern movie? I've heard there's to be one, but the article I read wasn't recent so I don't know if it's still happening or what stage it's up to...

That's the last thing I've seen on it. Copperheart Entertainment has optioned it (back in May 2006) but there's no news on whether or not they're actually going to film it.

If anyone else has additional news, hopefully they'll post it.

BTW, if you liked the world of Nimisha's Ship, make sure you read the short story The Coelura, too. :-)

Thanks, I'll check out that page.

I've read The Coelura :) It's a good story. I wish McCaffrey would write more in that universe.

there has been talk for YEARS of a Pern Movie/Cartoon Show/Computer game... I know the cartoon and game went so far as to be 'in development' but i dont know if anything was ever released

the computer game was done. i had it at one point, but it wasn't very good, and difficult to manuever, so i didn't play it much, and i don't think i have it anymore.

I know that at one point it was going to be a TV show, and apparently they had the sets, actors etc all ready, only TPTB wanted to edit the pilot script so much that it wouldn't be anything like the books, and the director/producer decided he wouldn't make it.

However, the movie I was talking about is the one someone linked to a press release for in the comment above you.

As far as the film is concerned, one friend of mine wonders if they'll bother now they've made Eragon, which is probably the dragon film for this decade. I've not yet seen it, but I've read the book and it is somewhat derivative (but still a good read!).

I doubt that would make any difference. If anything the same subjects are more likely to be made at the same time - just think about the two Alexander the Great movies filmed in the same year! Lol.

I haven't read or seen Eragon. I might check it out sometime.
